Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s most accessible high summits, a beacon for visitors from around the world. Most climbers reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. And those who reach Uhuru Point, the actual summit, or Gillman’s Point on the lip of the crater, will have earned their climbing certificates. And their memories. But there is so much more to Kili than her summit. The ascent of the slopes is a virtual climatic world tour, from the tropics to the Arctic.Even before you cross the national park boundary (at the 2,700m contour), the cultivated footslopes give way to lush montane forest, inhabited by many animals. – Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. This is also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every campsite with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow. This route is usually done in 5 days but can be done in 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.
The Machame route, also known as the Whisky Route is one of the most scenic and recommended routes on Kilimanjaro. This popular route with paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Ice fields to join the Barafu Route to the summit. Because it can be done over longer periods and the incline is more manageable it has a much higher success rate of summit.
Marangu Route 6 Days – The Kilimanjaro trekking Marangu Route is perhaps the easiest and most comfortable route to reach the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. The route is well-developed and the climb is constant and moderate. Only the approach to the summit is the exception as it is slightly more demanding. The accommodation on this tour is in simple mountain huts, which might be an advantage compared to the camping routes.
The Umbwe route is usually used by those seasoned mountaineers and especially those who approach the summit via the technical Western breach. This is ‘real mountain climbing’ only a handful of clients and guides can safely pass and summit. This route offers two options. A short hike onto the southern circuit starting via the South and a steep climb into the Barranco wall acting as a ‘short cut’ into the southern circuit. This is a great choice for climbers who want to complete the hike quickly with a large physical demand and low acclimatisation. The second option and one usually chosen on Umbwe is an approach is to summit via the Western breach. The western breach litterally means the gap in the western side of the Kibo cone (likely blown off on a historic erruption) and allows technical mountaineers the challenge of a steep and dangeroud summit attempt. There are many variations of this route and we can customise the experience to be as difficult / achievable as you want to allow.
7 Days Lemosho Route – The lesser-known Lemosho route begins on the western side of Mt Kilimanjaro. The first 2 days of the tour cross the thick rainforest belt which then changes into heath and moorland with many ferns and ericas along the way. The small trail sometimes has very steep passages and goes through diverse landscapes. On the third day, the trail joins the Machame route. Compared to the Marangu and the Rongai route, the Lemosho route is more challenging.
The Rongai Route is one of the easiest routes and the success rate is very high. The route starts on the north side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border, and is one of the least traveled routes. The descent is down the Marangu Route on the south side of the mountain, so climbers see the mountain from many view points. The drive to the trail head takes about 2.5 hours from Moshi through many villages and coffee plantations, including a stop to register climbing permits at Marangu. The Rongai Route can also be accessed from Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Allow 2 hours including border crossing. We will need copies of passports ahead of time.

3 Days Itinerary is the best for acclimatization prior to Kilimanjaro climbing; It is the third highest peak in Africa and is the second-highest Peak in Tanzania at 4,568m. The mountain is located within Tanzania’s gem. The prime location gives trekkers the chance to spot some of the wildlife that inhabits the area. Ascend is quite steep, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone, and moorland. Summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater. Book this tour

Here you can really get to grips with the life of the local Chagga people- wandering through the Materuni village and passing their homesteads. Located in the picturesque foothills of Kilimanjaro. Materuni has managed to retain its authentic edge over some of the other tourist attractions as it is not one of the routes for climbing Kilimanjaro. materuni
